Jenny enjoys the wide-ranging nature of her chemical patent work, which includes pharmaceuticals, chemical manufacturing processes, materials, polymers and catalysts. In the pharmaceutical area, Jenny has been involved with applications for compounds as diverse as light activated antimicrobials and nucleotide polyphosphates. She handles filing and prosecution of patent applications in the UK and Europe, as well as the USA and the rest of the world (in particular India). Jenny's practice includes drafting patent applications and opposition work.
Many of Jenny's clients are large companies based in Europe, Japan and the USA. She also works closely with a number of smaller startup companies and university technology transfer departments, where practical advice on strategy is as important as technical understanding. This aspect of the job can encompass drafting the initial applications, through to providing strategic advice during prosecution in a number of jurisdictions around the world. In this kind of work Jenny particularly values her discussions with the client and inventors in order to create a patent application that will be of value both in attracting investors and in protecting the eventual commercial product.
Jenny joined J A Kemp in 2002, after completing her studies and obtaining industrial experience as an analytical chemist. She became an associate in 2008.
