Pamela has over 10 years' professional experience. Much of her day-to-day practice involves prosecuting patent applications at the European Patent Office (EPO) and elsewhere, and handling oppositions and appeals before the EPO. She has also instructed Chinese attorneys in an ownership dispute over a Chinese patent in the Chinese courts and assisted in a UK court case relating to antibodies for treating rheumatoid arthritis.
She handles European patent applications across a range of biotechnology and life sciences subject matter, including antibodies and their uses, viral vectors, peptide vaccines and biomarkers. Her substantial experience of oppositions and appeals at the EPO includes, in particular, multi-party oppositions on antibody cases.
Pamela's client base includes both US and European antibody companies, academic institutions and government bodies. She also handles both European and foreign applications for small biotech companies developing technologies including synthetic viral vaccines and immunological assays. Notably, she acted for BioVex Limited, which specialises in herpes simplex virus technology, handling its patent portfolio and several EPO oppositions, prior to its high-value acquisition by Amgen.
Pamela joined JAKemp in 1999 and became a partner in 2008.
