Peter's doctoral research involved synthesising the first di-N-heterocyclic carbene ligands and using them to produce new nickel and palladium catalyst complexes. He also designed catalytic hydrogen storage materials using a new rhodium fullerene (C60) compound.
Peter is a partner at J A Kemp, based in our Oxford office. He handles patent work across a broad range of chemistry, including catalysis, hydrogen storage, polymer and dendrimer chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and synthetic and industrial chemical processes. Peter also works in the nanotechnology and medtech areas; he has drafted and prosecuted patent applications concerning nanoparticles and vesicles for use in drug delivery and synthetic biology, diagnostic imaging agents, stents and medical devices, and biocompatible materials for use in implants and research equipment. Peter specialises in the cleantech field too, having drafted applications concerning the conversion of waste byproducts into fuel and higher efficiency fuel cell catalysts.
Peter's work includes drafting patent applications and prosecuting them in the UK, Europe and overseas. Peter also handles post-grant work including oppositions, and he enjoys representing his clients at oral proceedings before the European Patent Office. He works with university clients, start-up companies and SMEs in the Oxfordshire area, and with larger companies worldwide.
Peter joined J A Kemp as a qualified attorney in 2005 after working elsewhere in private practice. He became a partner in 2012.
