Steve has over 35years' experience in the patent and trade mark profession. During his career he has been closely involved in the development, maintenance and enforcement of IP portfolios for several long-standing clients, dealing with subject matter ranging from mechanical inventions to opto-electronics. His specialist knowledge of packaging technology encompasses products as diverse as DVDs, pharmaceuticals and beverages. He particularly enjoys the challenges that arise in protecting simple mechanical devices and has a keen personal interest in cleantech and green technologies.

Steve is experienced in supporting businesses from the initial startup phase through to becoming established international operations. He has advised clients on IP issues when they undergo major changes including stock market flotation, spin-out or acquisition by a multinational corporation. He represents clients before the UK Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office, the World Intellectual Property Organization and the European Community Trade Mark & Design Office (OHIM).

In addition to his experience in private practice, Steve has worked in the in-house patent departments of British Leyland (handling work from BL Technology, Jaguar and MG) and Johnson Matthey (precious metals technology). Steve also has a love of the outdoors and is a keen cyclist.

Steve has worked in the Oxford area for more than 30years, setting up and running his own practice for 10 years and then as partner of another firm, before joining JAKemp's Oxford office in 2012.
