J A Kemp has been ranked as a top tier patent and trade mark firm in the 2017 edition of the IP Stars Handbook, published by Managing Intellectual Property.

Seven J A Kemp partners were ranked as “IP Stars”: patent attorneys Mike Nicholls, Mark Roberts, Sarah Roques, Amanda Simons and Ravi Srinivasan along with IP Litigator Tom Carver, James Fish, head of J A Kemp’s trade mark practice, and fellow trade mark partner, Tom Albertini.

The publication noted that “J A Kemp has a solid reputation in life sciences and chemistry work” and commented on the firm’s “expert teams in electronics and engineering”.  It noted the firm’s “exceptional legal and scientific expertise” in biotech.

Ravi Srinivasan is described as “full of energy” and “a great orator”. Amanda Simons is commended as being “most impressive in EPO oppositions” and “incredibly well organised and pragmatic”.

The publication also recommended the following J A Kemp attorneys: Andrew Bentham, Andrew Clark, John Leeming, Graham Lewis, Colin Merryweather, Chris Milton and Steve Unwin.

Steve Unwin is praised for his “friendly approach, diligence and expertise in obtaining the right protection for new products”.  In contentious matters, “Andy Bentham's written arguments are impressive” while “Chris Milton is developing into a class act”. Electronics and software specialist John Leeming “understands the patent system in multiple jurisdictions” and “possesses excellent commercial sensibility and judgement”.

The publication compliments J A Kemp’s IP litigation and dispute resolution team, which is fronted by experienced IP litigators, Alan Bryson and Tom Carver. “There is a great spread of knowledge and experience in the team so they are able to deal with all issues and queries smoothly.”

There are also commendations for several up-and-coming associates who are identified as “rising stars” at their level of the profession: Henry Hunt-Grubbe, who recently joined J A Kemp from a rival firm, Maeve O'Flynn who joined from industry and Vicki Allen who has been at J A Kemp throughout her career.
