Possible Risk to Business from Counterfeit Goods
On Tuesday 14 January 2014, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will launch a new campaign with the slogan Counterfeit: Don 't buy into organised crime to raise awareness about counterfeit goods and transnational organised crime. The proliferation of counterfeit goods is a global problem that is valued at an estimated $250 billion a year, with digital piracy and domestic counterfeiting raising that figure by several hundred billion dollars. As well as posing a huge risk to public health and safety, and having widespread social and ethical consequences, this illicit trade provides a potential funding source for cross-border criminal and organised crime activities. If you are affected by counterfeits please contact your usual J A Kemp advisor for further advice.
