Feng Rao
Feng is a European and UK Patent Attorney based in our Cambridge office. He has a broad technical background across biochemistry and biotechnology. Feng has been involved in the prosecution of patent applications in numerous jurisdictions across the world. Feng’s clients include individual inventors, biotech start-ups, as well as well-established multinational corporations.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Feng completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge in the fields of microbiology and structural biology. This technical background makes Feng particularly well placed to handle cases relating to the exploitation of microorganisms (such as fermentation processes) as well as cases relating to therapeutics and vaccines targeting pathogenic microorganisms. Feng is also accustomed to the handling of cases involving bioinformatics, computational biology and sequencing technology, which can be particularly complex in view of how the European Patent Office handles computer-implemented inventions.
Feng brings extensive experience in more contentious matters, having been involved in numerous hearings before the Opposition Division and Boards of Appeal at the European Patent Office, particularly in the fields of microbiological processes, vaccines and antibody technology.
Feng joined J A Kemp in 2018 having worked elsewhere in private practice since 2014. Feng became a partner in 2024.
When not working, you may occasionally see Feng rowing on the Thames or singing in the Royal Albert Hall.
