Aaron Newell Appointed WIPO UDRP Panelist
Congratulations to Aaron Newell, Partner in the Trade Marks and Designs Group, who has just been appointed by WIPO as a UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy) Panelist. The UDRP sets out the legal framework for resolution of disputes between parties over abusive registration and use of Internet domain names. Panelists are the adjudicators of the disputes; they assess the respective parties’ submissions and issue reasoned decisions.
WIPO’s statement on their list of Domain Name Panelists explains that they “have been selected on the basis of their well-established reputation for their impartiality, sound judgement and experience as decision-makers, as well as their substantive experience in the areas of international trademark law, electronic commerce and Internet-related issues.”
Aaron’s trade mark practice has for many years included a particular focus on domain name disputes and online infringement issues and he has built up a considerable reputation in this field, now reflected in his UDRP Panelist appointment. In 2019 the Legal 500 described Aaron as a truly outstanding specialist in domain name management, strategy, registration and recovery.
This is the second significant domain name dispute tribunal that has appointed Aaron as a Panelist. In 2018 he was invited to join the roster of Panelists at the National Arbitration Forum in the United States.
