Estonia Becomes the Thirteenth State to Ratify the Agreement on the Unified Patent Court (UPC)

On 1August 2017, Estonia became the thirteenth Member State to ratify the Unified Patent Court Agreement (UPCA). The UPCA will come into effect on the first day of the fourth month after both the UK and Germany have ratified the Agreement. The process for ratification by the UK is underway. If this proceeds as expected, the final major obstacle to the UP and UPC coming into force will be the constitutional challenge to German ratification. This is expected to be heard in autumn 2017.
