J A Kemp Associate Promotions 2023

J A Kemp has promoted six patent attorneys to Associate following successful completion of professional qualifications.

Carsten Reinhard works with inventions in the fields of plant science, agriculture, and microbiology, including CRISPR/Cas9 technology, plant disease resistance genes and effectors, insecticidal proteins and entomopathogens, transformation and genotyping methodologies, and silage inoculants. He is based in our Cambridge office.

Flick Kendrick has qualifications in mechanical and biomedical engineering and her patent work spans bioinformatics, computational biology, electronics, electrical engineering, and medical devices. She is based in our London office.

Hiro Shimazaki is a biochemist based in our London office with experience across a broad range of subject matter, including vaccines, antibodies, molecular biology, and diagnostics.

Jenny Soderman is a member of the firm's Chemistry and Pharmaceuticals Group, working across a range of chemical sciences, and in particular, has experience in handling subject matter ranging from textiles to crystalline forms of pharmaceutical compounds. She is based in our Cambridge office.

Johan Hill handles patent applications across a wide variety of technical fields, in particular relating to T-cell, CAR cell and other cell-based therapies, the modulation of the microbiome, plant treatments, synthetic biology, and antibodies. He is based in our Oxford office.

Judith Mercer has a background in the disciplines of mechanical and aeronautical engineering. Before joining J A Kemp, she studied for her PhD at the Surrey Space Centre and enjoyed close collaboration with her industrial sponsor, Airbus Defence and Space. She is based in our London office.

We currently have 21 trainee and part-qualified patent attorneys at the firm and a further six trainees will join in October. The comprehensive training and support that J A Kemp provides to all trainee attorneys enables them to transition effectively from an academic or research background to a business environment and to successfully progress in their career with the firm.
