Bobby Humphrey
Bobby joined J A Kemp in 2024 as a trainee patent attorney and is based in the firm’s Cambridge office.
Bobby obtained an MSci in Neuroscience from the University of Nottingham, where he received the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Undergraduate Academic Excellence Award, before studying for a PhD in the department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge.
Throughout his undergraduate and postgraduate studies, Bobby pursued his interest in the molecular mechanisms underlying neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity.
During his PhD, he specifically focussed on the characterisation of presynaptic dysfunction in long-term organotypic hippocampal brain slice preparations in response to Alzheimer’s disease (AD)-relevant transgenes and neuroinflammation. He developed technical expertise in ex vivo electrophysiology and a wide range of molecular biology techniques.
Bobby also has experience of drug discovery in industry. During his undergraduate studies, he undertook a 12-month industrial placement working on the development and functional characterisation of transgenic models of accelerated ageing, and he collaborated with the pharmaceutical industry throughout his PhD.
