Hiro is a European and UK Patent Attorney based in our Cambridge office. He handles drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications across a broad range of subject matter, including vaccines, antibodies, molecular biology, epigenetics and diagnostics.
A significant proportion of Hiro’s work involves coordinating prosecution of large patent families across multiple jurisdictions. As part of this work, Hiro works closely with in-house counsel and scientists, advising on all aspects of patent and filing strategies.

Prior to joining the patent profession, Hiro obtained a Masters degree in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. His degree included a research project investigating the role of ubiquitylation of histones in the recruitment of histone variants. During his studies, he also completed a summer research project funded by the Lister Institute of Preventive Medicine, studying the post-translational modification changes of histones that occur during X-chromosome inactivation.
Hiro joined J A Kemp as a trainee patent attorney in 2018 and became an associate in 2023. Hiro is a fluent Japanese speaker.
