Ruth Shelton

Associate, European and UK Patent Attorney, European Patent Litigator

Ruth is a European and UK Patent Attorney based in the firm’s Cambridge office.

Ruth specialises in chemical subject matter including pharmaceuticals, small molecule chemistry, first and further medical uses, synthetic chemistry, nutraceuticals, dyes and detergents. She is experienced in the drafting, filing and prosecution of UK, European and international patent applications. In addition, she particularly enjoys representing clients at opposition and appeal hearings at the European Patent Office.

Ruth joined J A Kemp in 2024 having previously worked at another private practice firm in Cambridge. She qualified as a patent attorney in 2013 and was awarded the Strode prize for achieving the highest mark on the advanced IP law and practice paper. Prior to that she completed a doctorate in organic chemistry at the University of Oxford and a masters degree in natural sciences (chemistry) at the University of Cambridge.
