Thomas Compton

Associate, European and UK Patent Attorney

Tom is a European and UK Patent Attorney. His work includes the drafting, filing and prosecution of patent applications in all areas of chemistry.

Tom has particular experience in pharmaceutical inventions such as small molecules and PROTACs, as well as microbial fermentation processes. Tom has also enjoyed taking part in a number of contentious matters at the European Patent Office, both attacking and defending patents for clients.

Before joining J A Kemp, Tom studied Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, specialising in organic, medicinal and biological chemistry, during which he achieved a college scholarship and a Horne Prize for Physical Sciences. His masters project focused on the synthesis of new antibiotics using fragment-based drug discovery. Tom spent a summer placement working in process chemistry at GlaxoSmithKline where he was involved in the manufacture scale-up of a drug in clinical trials.

Tom joined J A Kemp as a trainee patent attorney in 2019 and became an associate in 2024. He is based in our London office.
